Video Conferencing Basics

December 8th, 2009

Technology provides an easy way for people to communicate two or more people to see or hear each other in different locations at the same time.  With the use of computer applications like internet, it transmits information without physical involvement and helps to save time rather than to travel which can cause being late and misunderstandings.  Originally, in the past years, people only use analog, satellite links and radio communication.  But now, it is much more high-tech and much more convenient and faster way if we will use video conferencing.  Here are some of the factors in video conferencing etiquette to consider.

The most important among the etiquette is to keep your mouth shut whenever it is not your turn to speak.  Next is to project whenever possible to the nearest microphone.  Always look to the camera/ monitor even when you are not speaking.  Don’t make gestures in front of the camera which makes other people get irritated.  Just be yourself when you participate in the conversation.  Act naturally as you can be and speak as clear and fluent for the sake of the audience.  When it is your turn to speak, allow or give grace period for at least five seconds so that the speaker will not be interrupted from what he or she is saying.  After you speak, give every person enough time to think, to comment or answer your questions. Nowadays, this kind of technology is in trends most especially in business meetings and in courts.
