Studying Probabilities in Math
Probability is an area in Math which studies the chance or likelihood, impinges on the many aspects of our lives. It is uncommon for that Probability is introduced to kids before key Stage 3. The reason why they exempt kids at such age to study Probability is because it is considered a difficult subject and kids at this age will surely find it stressing. This is a pity since many Key Stage 2 pupils are already engaging in this subject and they find it enjoying. It really helped them consolidate the knowledge they have on other areas of Math such as arithmetic.
Another reason has to do with sociological issues in that there are some teachers who perceive the association between gambling and probability makes it such an unsuitable subject to study at a young age. However, there are strong counter arguments saying that kids who have been introduced to this subject at a really young age are less likely to be drawn to gambling since they will be able to appreciate the extent under which the odds are stacked against gambler.
The most difficult but most important principle to get across to kids is that the subject probability deals with likelihood and not certainty. Tossing coins is one of the practical way to introduce this concept.
