How Often You Should Replace your Car’s Air Filters and Oil Filters

April 27th, 2010

Most guys afford to go to gym faithfully thrice a week and yet they could not afford to bring their cars or trucks for air filter or oil filter service.  Although are really no precise rule as to how often vehicle owners should swap their filters out since it depends on the car’s driving condition and the miles they log, there are guidelines which vehicle owners need to consider.  Afterall, what your vehicle needs to function to its maximum is a regular maintenance.

The primary defense of an engin against any internal abrasion is oil filter.  Solid contaminants such as carbon, metal particles from oil, and dirt are removed by oil filters before they can do damage to the surface of the bearings, cylinders or journals within the engine.  A fresher filter is more effective in trapping contaminants.

In later engines, the oil is directed to the filter before they finally goes to the bearings, cam bearing and the valve train-gear head.  This is the most efficient way to remove the contaminants while also assures that what finds way into the engine are only filtered oil.  If the oil filter begins to wear, it starts to develop some debris and dirt build up which is the main cause of the obstruction of oil flow.
